Dutch Mammals part 1 by Avanii Dutch Mammals part 1 by Avanii
*EDIT* and the winner is... *Tzyoku! the animals are, from left to right:
Beech Marten (Martes foina); Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes)
Eurasian River Otter (Lutra lutra); Pine Marten (Martes martes)
European Badger (Meles meles) ; Least Weasel (Mustela nivalis)
Ermine/ Stoat (Mustela erminea); European Polecat (Mustela putorius)

next upload will be a trade, I promise...

I've been wanting to do this for quite a while and I finally got motivated to do it. These are the mammal predators you can find in the Netherlands (I didn't include the seals). Let's see if you know all of them ;) the first one who tells me in a comment which animals are drawn here (English and Latin names) will get a headshot request in the style I used here ;)) Good luck :D

art is © to me
please don't use this, thank you.

I've know these animals since i was 6. I know the latin names, habits an anatomy from the dutch predators (birds an reptiles included). You forgot to include the wildcat, Felis silvestris. But i love the way you draw the heads of the Mustiledea!

Yes, me too, I love them :) Though, as far as I know, the wildcat doesn't live in the Netherlands anymore.

We got five of them... And possibly a german wolf who has crossed the border for a brief moment.

Really? I did not know. I did hear about the wolf on the news, not sure if it'll stay here, though I think it would be nice :)

The forests are not big enough for a whole pack but since a while a group of younger ones went closer and closer to the border. They were expected in march 2012 but they can enter at any moment. There are enough deers to feed them for now but it isn't sure how this will go since it's a long line. Not really a big forest so it's to close to humans. They probably will visit only a few weeks at the time and will regularly retreat to Germany. Or just hang around the borders for years.

I'm not learned in the Latin names of these animals (I can only say that for Lemurs and some bats) so I used the wonders of Google! YAY FOR CHEATING! 8D

In order from left to right:
Beech Marten, Martes foina (Guessing by the eye markings!); Red Fox, Vulpes vulpes (Ha! I actually knew that Latin name. xD)
Eurasian River Otter, Lutra lutra; Pine Marten, Martes martes (I knew that one, too!)
European Badger, Meles meles (LOVE these!); Least Weasel, Mustela nivalis
Ermine (AKA Stoat), Mustela erminea; European Polecat, Mustela putorius

WOO! I just love doing these little animal quizzes! <3

Woohoo! ^^ That was a lot of fun! And thanks so much for this! Not only for giving out the request, but guessing the animals was fun! I love animal guessing games like these! :D

Hmm.. Well, do you mind drawing characters, or would you prefer to do normal animals? Either way is fine with me! Oh, and are you comfortable with drawing primates (namely Lemurs)? :?

you're welcome :D I've never drawn lemurs before, but I'm willing to try :) it doesn't matter if it's a character or a normal animal, your choice ;)

Okay, thank you for giving it a try! ^^ I would love it if you could draw a Sanford's Lemur for me. I've got a whole webpage with some photos and all kinds of information here: [link]

You can either draw a normal male Sanford's Lemur, or you can draw my character (Which would just be drawing a slightly more anthropomorphized Sanford's Lemur, with a hat and some hair.). Whichever you feel like drawing would be great! :D

Most people haven't! A lot of people only know about Ring-Tailed Lemurs, and maybe a general idea of sifakas and the Aye-Aye. But, I'm a lemur nerd! =P
That's fine! ^^ I'm patient. Plus, you're offering to do it for free, so I have no place to complain!

Huu... I think these may be it, but I'm not sure... I used Wiki for the Latin and such (Like, I knew badger but used wiki to go into the specifics of 'European Badger';), I hope that's okay...

Red Fox - Vulpes vulpes
Ermine/Stoat - Mustela erminea
European Polecat - Mustela putorius
European Pine Martin - Martes martes
Eurasian Otter - Lutra lutra
European Badger - Meles meles
Least Weasel - Mustela nivalis
European Mink - Mustela lutreola
