Plushie: Bartholomew the European Badger by Avanii Plushie: Bartholomew the European Badger by Avanii
Meet Bartholomew, Bailey's () big badger brother! Sorry I could not resist the alliteration on that sentence xD After I sold Bailey I realized that I actually did want to have a badger of my own, so I made Bart. He's quite a bit bigger than Bailey, made on the original size of the pattern (I made Bailey small as a test: if it didn't work out, I wouldn't have lost as much fabric). He's huggable and soft, I really love the way he turned out :D He's approx. 24 cm nose to butt (9 inch) and is tied with my early plush Lin () for biggest plushie I've made so far. He's also the first to have needle-felting incorporated in his design (I made him before Kousan the bird!): five claws per fore-paw, they're far from perfect but any big badger needs his claws! Just like with Bailey, I painted the front of his ears black and cut the fur short, except for the rim, so he has a white rim of fluff on his otherwise black ears. I find that comes closest to a real badger's ears. I made the transition between the black of the head stripes and the grey of the body smoother with Copic markers. His nose has two layers of embroidery thread to make it extra round and big. They're such great animals, I couldn't resist making another one! The grizzled grey fur I have would make a really nice badger too, hmmm....

Materials:
Grey, white and black synthetic fabrics (1,3 cm long), flesh-coloured felt piece and white merino wool for the claws and pads. Small, brown glass eyes and black embroidery thread. Stuffed with fibrefill and plastic pellets. Completely hand-made.

Please do not repost or use! Photos and plushie are 100% made by me.

yes, for many years i wanted to see them... when we moved here, four years ago, i was told that they live around here, but not before last year did i actually see one... the first one lay, sad enough, dead by the other side of the road... i instantly stopped my car when i saw him and went to look at him - he was big! i never thought that they would get that fat and big, impressive... then some months later one of them crossed the road directly in front of me when i drove home one late evening... fascibating... :D
i also saw martins in this village, which are very common in the whole area round here and once i had the chance to see courting polecats crossing the street in front of our house... i had heard them fussing in the nights before and was wondering which kind of animal could make such fierce noises, haha... they're cute... :D

i hope you can see them one day, it's a nice experience... :D

Sounds like you live an a rural area, is that right? What country? You're lucky though! I have never seen any wild mustelids, or any predatory mammal for that matter. Lots of deer and rabbits/hares, some mice/rats and a lot of buzzards, that's what I see most around here xD I think the Netherlands may be too crowded for most of them to come out in daylight. Even though I'm the only one in the family who hasn't seen the resident fox yet D:
